Bioskoop
Bioskoop is a Deco-inspired, expanded display typeface designed by Ramiro Espinoza. Its origins lie in the distinctive lettering found on the façade of the long-abandoned Cinema Palace, located at Lage Barakken 12 in Maastricht. The architects behind its design—and the creator of its striking lettering—remain unclear, yet the work reflects the elegance and optimism typical of early twentieth-century cinema architecture.
Espinoza reinterpreted these forms with dedication, translating them into a complete, functional type family suited for modern design needs. Bioskoop retains the theatrical flair of its source while adapting to digital environments with clarity and balance. Perfect for posters, film titles, signage, websites, signage, logos and editorial projects, Bioskoop invites designers to channel the atmosphere of the interwar period through a contemporary lens—where nostalgia meets modern craftsmanship.
