Gebroken
This typeface is inspired by a style of lettering found in some Dutch elementary schools and public buildings constructed in the 1920s.
In 2025, Ramiro Espinoza took numerous photographs of buildings in Voorburg, Leiden, Wassenaar, and Haarlem to document this lettering style. The next step was to design a font, which involved eliminating inconsistencies in the original letterforms and completing the character set in a harmonious way.
The name Gebroken ("broken" in Dutch) alludes to the most striking feature of the design: the unusual shape of its letter "E."
This font is sure to perform well in designs that require large type sizes, such as posters and book covers. Art directors looking for original and recognizable fonts for logos and websites will surely find a reliable ally in Gebroken.
