Genootschap
Genootschap is a typeface strongly inspired by the lettering on the façade of the Apostolic Genootschap Watergraafsmeer building, located in the Galileiplantsoen district of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
This beautiful building, in a style characteristic of the Amsterdam School, was designed by architect Cornelis Kruyswijk (1884–1935), who is possibly also the creator of the lettering.
These letters stand out for their typographic finesse and proportions—different from the alphabets typically chosen by architects of that school, who tended to prefer modular and much bolder letterforms.
In early 2025, Ramiro Espinoza took numerous photographs of the building and then digitized and adapted the letterforms to create a working typeface. The result is a striking design with clear influences from the Dutch interwar avant-garde architectural movements and Jugendstil.
This typeface is well-suited for distinctive logos, clothing brands, movie posters, book covers, museum catalogs, websites, and brochure or magazine headlines.
