Gewer
Gewer is an all-capitals sans serif typeface designed by Ramiro Espinoza and inspired by the lettering used in promotional materials for the Deutsche Gewerbeschau München, a Bavarian trade exhibition held during the early decades of the twentieth century. The original alphabet combines geometric construction with subtle humanist features and restrained Deco influences, resulting in letterforms that are both rational and refined.
Espinoza studied the proportions, stroke relationships, and structural logic of the original lettering and translated these qualities into a contemporary digital typeface. Rather than reproducing the source literally, he refined the geometry, regularized the construction, and expanded the character set for modern typographic use while preserving its balance between functional clarity and formal elegance.
With its restrained character and generous horizontal proportions, Gewer is well suited for branding, editorial design, posters, signage, packaging, websites, and exhibition graphics. Combining geometric structure, subtle humanist modulation, and Deco-inspired details, it offers a distinctive display voice that connects early twentieth-century commercial lettering with contemporary graphic design.
