Midwestern
This font is strongly inspired by the sign found on the façade of the community center Midwest in Amsterdam, located at Cabralstraat 1.
This beautiful building, in a style influenced by the Amsterdam School, was designed by The Office of Public Works of the Municipality of Amsterdam and built in 1924. The name of the architect is unknown.
In the early months of 2025, Ramiro Espinoza took numerous photographs of the lettering on the façade to use as a starting point for the design of Midwestern. For this, he drew matching numerals, diacritics, and punctuation marks, and also refined certain details so that the whole would gain consistency and function as a professional-quality font.
The result is a display typeface with unique and original details, carefully spaced and kerned, suitable for all types of design work where visual impact is essential.
Designers and art directors looking for a highly recognizable and effective font will find in Midwestern a reliable ally for a wide range of print and digital projects.
