Minibieb
Minibieb is a compressed informal sans typeface designed by Ramiro Espinoza and inspired by a lettering work by painter and designer Theo Kurpershoek for the dust jacket of the 1961 Querido edition of Kleine Mensen in de Grote Wereld by A. den Doolaard. The original lettering combines narrow proportions with an informal, hand-drawn appearance typical of Dutch book cover design of the period.
Espinoza analyzed the proportions, contours, and construction of Kurpershoek’s letterforms and translated them into a contemporary digital typeface. Rather than reproducing the original lettering directly, he refined inconsistencies, regularized spacing, and expanded the character set for present-day typographic use while preserving the compact structure and informal quality of the source.
With its condensed proportions and approachable tone, Minibieb is suitable for logos, book covers, posters, packaging, signage, websites, and cultural projects that benefit from a compact and expressive typographic voice. The typeface offers a practical way to connect the character of historical lettering design with contemporary graphic applications.
