Information

Misiva (meaning "message" or "letter" in Spanish) is a geometric sans typeface by Ramiro Espinoza, inspired by the elegant lettering found on the mailboxes designed in 1926 by Anton Kurvers (1889–1940) for the Amsterdam Municipal Public Works Office. Espinoza, an admirer and collector of Kurvers’ work, had previously drawn from his legacy when creating the successful Kurversbrug typeface, based on the lettering from Amsterdam’s bridges. With Misiva, he saw another opportunity to revive and reinterpret one of Kurvers’ distinctive alphabets.
To deepen his research, Espinoza began acquiring books and printed materials produced by the designer, studying their forms in detail. The result is a faithful yet contemporary adaptation, preserving the refined geometry and subtle deco influences that made the original so striking. Recommended for posters, signage, websites, branding, packaging, and design pieces connected to the Amsterdamse School and Amsterdam of the 1920s, Misiva offers a sharp, historically rooted tool that bridges heritage with modern typographic expression.
