Olaf is a modular, condensed type family designed by David Quay and Ramiro Espinoza, inspired by the beautiful three-dimensional lettering on the façade of St Olaf House in London’s Borough of Southwark. The building’s distinctive architectural signage—with its sharp relief and forms that are reminiscent of runic letterforms—provided the foundation for a contemporary reinterpretation that preserves the clarity and depth of the original design.
The Olaf family consists of four styles: a standard Regular font and three beveled, shadowed color fonts—Noon, Dusk, and Night—each offering a different palette and distinct visual tone. These styles maintain a consistent modular framework while allowing for expressive variations in texture and impact.
Carefully developed for modern typographic needs, Olaf is well suited for websites, logos, posters, signage, visual identities, editorial design, and digital applications that benefit from condensed proportions and a strong architectural presence.
