Omslag
Omslag (Dutch for “cover”) is based on lettering designed by Anton (Antonius) Kurvers (1889–1940) for several books published by the progressive Dutch publishing house N.V. Uitgevers-Maatschappij.
This typeface features stylistic elements typical of those produced by architects of the Amsterdam School—a group with which Kurvers collaborated. Its proportions and the design of several letters resemble the model used on numerous Amsterdam bridges, a design that may also have been created by Kurvers during his time at the Office of Public Works of the Municipality of Amsterdam.
As a declared admirer of Kurvers’s work, Ramiro Espinoza decided to adapt this design for typographic use, as he has done with other Kurvers letterings—enhancing the overall consistency and redefining the proportions of certain letters. The result is a uniquely recognizable font with a strong expressionist character, well-suited for posters, book covers, museum catalogs, Dutch beer and gin labels, and websites or campaigns promoting music festivals.
