Physica

Physica is a display typeface designed by Ramiro Espinoza and inspired by the lettering on the façade of the Laboratorium voor Technische Physica der Technische Hoogeschool, located at Mijnbouwplein 11 in Delft. The building, designed by architects G. van Drecht, W.F.L. van Leeuwen, and Johan Robbers, reflects the careful balance between function and ornament typical of Dutch architecture in the early twentieth century.
The original letters have a friendly appearance, with soft details and subtle Deco traits. Espinoza translated these features into a digital typeface that preserves their approachable character while improving consistency and usability. Physica works well in packaging, posters, exhibitions, signage, branding, editorial design, websites, and computer games. It offers a clear, adaptable option for projects that seek a connection between historical Dutch lettering and contemporary typographic practice.
