Politikus is a display typeface designed by Ramiro Espinoza and inspired by the carved lettering found on a monument dedicated to the politician and naturalist Eugenio Espejo (1747–1795), located in Városmajor Park in Budapest, Hungary. The original inscription combines solidity and restraint with clear expressionist traits and may reflect the influence of Rudolf Koch’s reed calligraphy.
Espinoza translated these qualities into a digital typeface, refining the forms and expanding the character set while preserving the rhythm and presence of the original letters. Politikus emphasizes emotion and dynamism, making it suitable for posters, editorial design, logos, signage, and websites that benefit from a energetic typographic tone.
