Pugliese
Pugliese is a bold and expressive display typeface designed by Ramiro Espinoza, inspired by striking examples of Futurist lettering photographed during a trip through Italy’s Puglia region. Among the key references was a 1935 fabric label for the brand Dekros, whose dynamic, angular letterforms echoed the energy and experimentation of early 20th-century Italian graphic design.
Drawing from these sources, Espinoza crafted Pugliese as a contemporary homage to Futurist aesthetics—full of sharp contrasts, rhythmic tension, and geometric invention. Its letterforms are daring yet carefully constructed, evoking the speed, movement, and optimism that defined the avant-garde spirit of the era.
More than a revival, Pugliese reimagines the eccentric charm of vintage Italian commercial lettering for modern applications. It’s ideal for editorial headlines, posters, and identity projects that aim to make a confident visual statement. Now available through ReType, Pugliese invites designers to explore a forgotten corner of typographic history with fresh eyes.
