Sontag
This Deco-style font is based on the lettering found on the Roomcentrale H. Adriaensen building located at Cuperusstraat 7 in Antwerp, Belgium. The work was designed by architect Frans Cools. F. Cools, based in Hoboken likely began his career around 1920 and appears to have been active as an architect until the late 1950s. During the interwar period, his designs evolved from expressive brick architecture influenced by the Amsterdam School to a more restrained modernism.
In 2024, Ramiro Espinoza photographed the façade and, in 2025, used the images as inspiration to design a Deco-style geometric sans serif. The name Sontag is a tribute to author Susan Sontag.
This typeface stands out at large sizes and is well-suited for distinctive logos, clothing brands, movie posters, book covers, museum catalogs, websites, and brochure or magazine headlines.
