Stencilex
Stencilex is a radical display typeface inspired by the eye-catching stencil lettering featured in a vintage advertisement for the Dutch firm Filip Bosch en Zo. Discovered by Ramiro Espinoza while researching early 20th-century Dutch graphic design, the original letters stood out for their striking geometry, inventive detailing, and subtle echoes of the Amsterdam School aesthetic. The original designer of the lettering remains anonymous, but their work reflects a refined sensibility and a clear understanding of modular form.
Intrigued by the originality and typographic potential of the forms, Espinoza set out to adapt the alphabet into a fully functioning typeface. The result is Stencilex—a design that blends utilitarian stencil construction with expressive, almost architectural shapes. Its modularity and visual rhythm make it ideal for branding, brochures, websites, signage, and posters where character and structure are equally important.
